Weather Overview
Cannes has a typically Mediterranean climate with short, mild winters and a good 10 hours of sunshine per day during the summer season. A constant sea breeze ensures that the climate and overall temperatures in Cannes remain pleasant, even during the heat of high summer.
The clear waters around Cannes remain warm enough for water sports enjoyment for most of the year. All seasons see a relatively low level of rainfall, which usually follows a distinct pattern of light and regular showers during winter and much less frequent but heavy downpours in summer and autumn.
In general, visitors to Cannes can expect mild winter months and warm weather from May right through to September. There is never a bad time to visit.
Spring (Mar - April)
Spring is lovely in the region, and temperatures average between 10°C and 17°C.
Occasionally, a sudden spell of warm weather will send daytime temperatures rising to 21°C / 70°F. Although Cannes doesn't get a lot of rainy weather during the year, come prepared for the odd heavy shower.
Summer (May - Sep)
You can't beat summer in Cannes; during the summer months, expect a hot climate, perfectly clear blue skies and long periods of constant sunny weather with as many as 12 hours of sunshine a day. Temperatures often reach a high of 27°C - 30°C during July and August but cooling sea breezes make sure that it never feels overly stifling.
The mainly settled conditions and many weeks without rainfall can occasionally produce high temperatures of up to 38 °C, which will invariably be broken by a heavy and brief thundery downpour before fine and bright conditions return again.
Autumn (Oct - Nov)
Autumn temperatures in Cannes are often still mild and pleasant, with average temperatures in the low 20s and plenty of blue skies although there can be an increase in unsettled weather. October and November see the most significant rainfall during the year, but the downpours are usually brief.
Winter (Dec - Feb)
The mild winter climate is makes this a good time to visit Cannes if you prefer to sightsee when it's cooler and want to avoid the summer crowds.
Temperatures can drop unexpectedly in winter, but seldom below the 6°C mark. Cool and sunny days which see temperatures of 7 - 12 °C and up to a credible 6 hours of daily sunshine, are frequent.
Winters in Cannes are great if you are fed up of the rain, snow and sub-zero temperatures in the UK or other cool European countries.
